The Road To Genius

If you are interested in the theories of quantum physics you will know that the very observation of certain experiments has been shown to affect their outcome. Without going too deep, the implication is that the experimenters are somehow connected to the experiment itself and no matter what they do, they are unable to prevent their influence over it. On the level of meta-physics this is evidence of our oneness with everything. Somehow we are connected to everything outside of us and have access to all there is to know but at the same time are separated by the illusion of our apparent individuality. But what is it that makes us all appear to be different. Have you ever wondered why certain people exhibit genius qualities? What is that makes a child a chess grandmaster, a great mathematician or a virtuoso musician well before their time? Is it in the power of their mind or is the secret in how they are wired?

For a moment imagine we are all connected to pure consciousness through a series of channels. These channels exist because of our idea of separation and where we feel our place is in the world. Our minds have flourished on this idea of separation. All the ideas we hold about ourselves including our status, our background, our race etc have allowed the mind to take control of our lives. This control has a direct bearing on the number and strength of channels open to us. They are what makes us different and why some people are excellent in given fields whilst other people struggle. It seems that access to pure consciousness is prevented by the mind. Not only are the channels forged by the mind through its idea of separation, they are also blocked by the mind's activity. Like noise on a radio the mind interferes with the channels that keep us connected to our true self. we live by the mind and through the mind and only on occasion do we glimpse the greater powers that be.

Have you noticed that the harder you think about a problem the more illusive the solution? Yet, when you still the mind or stop thinking about it the answer seems to come to you from nowhere? This is an open channel to the greater self that is free from the interference of the mind. The best solutions come from beyond the mind! You see, the mind can only give you solutions to problems based on past experience and knowledge. Most famous artists, musicians, writers and scientists have all said that their greatest ideas come from a deeper place than the mind. We all experience this on certain levels because we are all connected to the greater self through many channels. It's just that the stronger connections go hand in hand with our greater skills; those skills we practice the most!

When an apprentice exceeds the master's ability where has the new found talent come from? The same can be said for those we consider genius. Somehow, at whatever age they have found a strong and open channel to the greater self. And, they keep this channel strong through constant practice. It is practice that lowers the level of mind noise and keeps the channel open to new ideas.

And here is the key for the rest of us. These channels allow each and everyone of us to develop the qualities of genius. When we consistently practice something we open up the channels to the greater essence of the thing we are practicing. We tune into a greater power that makes us exceed the abilities of our mentors. We become classified as a genius. In effect we become a genius in whatever it is we practice long and hard enough at. Practice really is the road to perfection!

Thinking About  Thinking (1)

How much time do you spend just thinking? Take a guess - how much during any given day, week or month? I'm don't mean the kind of thinking you do while driving in your car, commuting on the train, during your morning run, or even in the shower. I'm referring to the kind of thinking you do ensconced in your office, or your den, or perhaps your garden. You are not reading a book or a magazine, nor watching TV, nor listening to music. You are simply thinking.

How much time do you spend doing that? Most of you will answer little to none. Many people consider spending time "just thinking" to be a luxury. After all, you have real problems - customers, employees, investors - all wanting some of your time, all wanting you to do something. And in our action driven society, we need to be doing something - much of the time we seem to be doing two or three things at once. But thinking?

It seems silly to rhetorically ask why this is so important. Thinking is the process by which companies and people create intellectual capital and knowledge. Thinking is the way we actively develop new ideas, rather than reacting to our current circumstances. Thinking is how we invent strategy. Thinking is one of the hardest things there is for people to do, let alone do well. But to figure out how to make the most of your precious resources, to leap ahead of your competition, and to master the ever-accelerating pace of change, you have no choice. You have to think about things.

There seem to be two broad categories of thinking. One category consists of free-form activities like daydreaming and meditating, and I will address these in a later column. The second category includes the disciplined process of asking questions and trying to answer them. This is the practical side of thinking and is the perspective of this article. Does it make sense to write a brief article about thinking? Not a learned, academic treatise on cognitive science - but a short pragmatic missive, practical and prescriptive. I think so. I think clarifying the concept of thinking gives people a way - a process - and perhaps provides greater access to thinking.

When I think about the issue of thinking, what am I really doing? I am asking a question - I actually say to myself - "what is thinking?" I might further ask, "what does my mind do when I try to think?" Or maybe, "How can I think without asking a question?" And so on. I don't get very far with all of this, because no matter how I try to direct my thoughts, I discover that I am always asking a question. Every single time.

This would be hard enough if all there was to it was asking good questions. But for the process to be of real value, I have to consider answering the questions as well. Or at least I have to consider possible answers. So my simple definition of thinking is: asking questions and considering possible answers.

Why don't I just say answering questions rather than considering possible answers? Because generating definitive, single-pointed answers is only one kind of thinking. The second, perhaps more powerful kind of thinking - particularly in the realm of strategy - is known as inquiry. In the process of inquiry, you ask questions and look at possible answers. Your goal is not a definitive answer, for that would bring the inquiry to a close. Rather you peel back the question, like the leaves of an artichoke, revealing more questions, and more possible answers, and so on. At some point, you get to the heart of the matter, just as you get to the heart of the artichoke.

To think about an issue, focus your mind by asking one or more germane questions. Each question should be designed to elicit a response driving your mind in a particular direction. You can ask questions serially, answering each in turn, or stack your questions one on top of another, attempting to answer the whole lot of them at once when the time is right. Sometimes your answers will give birth to more questions. Even your unanswered questions will sometimes yield more questions.

When do you cease asking questions? When you have thought the thing through - when you have developed sufficient ideas that profoundly illuminate your original question.

There are other criteria for stopping your questioning. You might decide to inquire into an issue for a fixed period of time, say thirty minutes, or seven days. Or, you might ask a question with the intent of coming up with fifteen or twenty new and provocative answers. You might decide to keep asking questions until your answers yield no further questions, or until your questions yield no further answers. You might not decide any of these things and simply stop when it feels right - when you feel you have the "right" answer. Or you might not stop at all, instead engaging in the question continually.

Then there is the issue of answers. I've always liked those 8-Ball fortune geegaws which offer the same answers no matter the question. But what distinguishes thinking from mere questioning is developing answers authentically and responsibly. I think it is the commitment to come up with a useful answer, rather than saying "I don't know" or simply trotting out some time-worn old bit you know will fit, but not really add anything.

Many times you have no idea as to what an answer might be. What do you do then? One of my favorite perspectives is, "Well if you did know the answer, what would it be?" Another useful perspective is to simply invent an answer. Make one up and see if it fits. Trust your subconscious. Access all of your stored knowledge and experience - it just might come through for you. I think that is thinking.

What kind of questions should you ask? I have no idea, but it's a good question. Since I am unable to answer it, I have decided instead to offer 16 questions about strategic direction. I think these questions are worth asking. Please substitute we for I, our for my, my company for I and me, as appropriate.

What is my purpose?
What do I want (to be, to do, to have) that I do not already (be, do, have)?
What am I thinking is the real thing, when "the real thing" is simply substituting for something that can really make a difference?
In what ways am I being effective? In what ways am I not being effective?
What isn't getting done that needs to get done?
What doesn't exist in our market, which people want, and we could deliver?
What other ways would people like to get what we give them?
What are we doing that we want to stop doing?
What would make us happy?
What did I forget?
When will we be ready?
How hard are we willing to try to make it easy?
What aren't we taking on because we don't think we know how?
What is the most important thing, right now? What will be the most important thing next month?
Who could help us?
Where are we looking for answers, and where not?

I hope these questions get you thinking.

It Takes More than Effort to Get Results

7/21/2013

Picture
The truth is, what we really need to do is work smarter not harder.  There are many things we can do to work harder, including building our skills, our capacities, our network, and our experience.

learning, leadership, success, gifts, using talents to gain success

Read the title again, carefully.  It doesn’t say “it takes more effort to get results.”  It says “it takes more than effort to get results.”  Ah, the difference a word can make.

In the world I grew up and live in, hard work is considered a high virtue.  I’ve read children's books that spoke of the value of hard work.  I grew up on a farm and was proud to work hard.  Few compliments will be viewed as highly as, “They are a hard worker.” And most people I know consider persistence a highly valued trait. These are some of the words I have heard from people in my different walks of life.

And I suspect your world is much the same.

As I continue to learn and observe the world around me, I'm quite sure this is the whole story.

That doesn't mean I don't think effort is required, that work is necessary, or that action helps us reach our goals.  Of course, we need to take action to get results.  Of course work is required to achieve anything of value.  The quarrel I have is not with the word “work.”  It's with the word “hard.”

Of course some things are hard work and always will be.  However hard work, taken to the extreme leads us to the equivalent of bashing our head against a concrete wall, figuring that eventually the wall will crack, and we will break through.  Can we break through the concrete wall and reach our objective using our head?  Perhaps, but I believe there are better ways to break through the wall!

While this analogy may be simple, and somewhat painful, I believe it holds an important element of truth for us all.  Why?  We all know there are better ways to break through a concrete wall than using our head.  As you read this I’m sure you can think of many tools that would allow you to us that while more easily and successfully while creating less pain and agony for yourself.

But unfortunately often people feel that hard work is necessary and that sacrifice is required for them to reach the things they desire.

The truth is, what we really need to do is work intelligently.  There are many things we can do to work more intelligently, including building our skills, our capacities, our network, and our experience.  All of these things are important.  But none of them are the most important.

What is the Most Important?

The most important key to reaching our objectives, with less "hard" work is within ourselves.  The most important key are the natural gifts and talents that lie within us, largely untapped and unrecognized.

In my experience there are two ways to mop the floor: on your hands and knees using a rag or standing in using a mop.  When we celebrate hard work, it's like we are celebrating the rag.  If all you have is a rag, you can certainly get the floor clean.  On the other hand, if you knew there was a mop would you choose the rag?

So it is with our own natural gifts.  We have the mop, but we don't often think about it or recognize it and therefore don't use it.

Three Things You Can Do

Here are three things you can do today to begin to work more intelligently.

Identify your gifts and strengths.  In order to use the mop, you must know the mop exists.  In order for us to take advantage of our unique talents, abilities, strengths, and gifts we must know they are there.  This requires us to think about our strengths and ask others what our strengths are.  It will require time for reflection.  It will require time.  This task itself will require some effort.  But the effort is worth it.  Every time we use the mop, we gain time, save energy and complete a task more rapidly.  It's time to find your mop!

Allow yourself to use them.  Once we know we have a mop, we have to allow ourselves to use it.  Maybe your mentor used a rag.  Maybe your mother used a rag.  While that might be the most successful way for them, that doesn't necessarily mean it is for you.  Once you identified your gifts and talents, you must allow yourself to use them.  You must take the opportunity to use your unique gifts, because in using them, your results will seemingly flow from you.

Work on building them. Many of us when reviewing our skills will identify a list of both strengths and weaknesses.  This is an excellent exercise.  While it is important for us to recognize our weaknesses and work in many cases to improve them, it is equally important to continue to nurture and strengthen our greatest gifts and strengths.  Consider spending at least as much time nurturing and building your strengths as you do on improving or fixing your areas of weakness.  Again, you will get greater results for these efforts because they will come easier and more naturally.

When you do these three things, you'll begin to make your work easier and more enjoyable.  At the same time, you will most likely find that your results will come sooner and more completely.

What could be better than that?  The results we want, with less effort and more enjoyment.

Remember, it takes more than effort to get results; it takes intelligent, informed, enlightened, effort.

It’s time to get to work.

Powerful Words

The Word of God is Truth, and the Truth will set you free. Freedom from fear, despair, suffering, and anxiety is the greatest gift you can get. It fills you with hope, love and faith which transforms into real Power.

We have the power to achieve, create and change circumstances in our lives. We are born powerful. Our Creator did not leave us helpless, poor and weak. He gave us all the tools to not only survive but fulfill our destiny to the utmost. We are all born for a purpose. It does not matter where we came from or the circumstances of our birth, youth or present lifestyle.

Let us consider these Words:

“The Lord will perfect that which concerns me: your mercy, O Lord, endures forever; forsake not the works of your own hands.” (Isaiah 138:8)

“I will praise you; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are thy works.. My substance was not hid from you, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes did see my substance, yet being imperfect; and in your book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.(Psalm 139:14-16)

“Thus says the Lord, thy Redeemer; the Holy One of Israel; I am the Lord thy God who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way that you should go.” (Isaiah 48:17)

These are just a few Words of Promise that you can stand on and act upon. The Bible is filled with them. Not only is God’s Word better than the thoughts and words of great thinking and creative genius, it transforms people! Why? Because they penetrate the heart! They don’t merely appeal to your intellect, emotions or common sense, like ordinary words. The Word of God is “Quick and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow (body), and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12).

The Word of God is Truth, and the Truth will set you free. Freedom from fear, despair, suffering, and anxiety is the greatest gift you can get. It fills you with hope, love and faith which transforms into real Power..

Jesus is also called the Word of God. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with of God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1) He came to give beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, and the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord. (Isaiah 61:3) Furthermore, to those who believe in Him He gives the power to become the sons of God. (John 1:12)

That amazing power is not just for us to read about in the Bible. That kind of supernatural power is available to each and every one of us, every moment of every day! God's truth allows you to experience His grace and His power. So, instead of solving your problems by your own minute power, allow me to encourage you to reach out and tap into God’s Power. It's available for each one of us, smart or not, rich or poor, happy or miserable - any time we call upon His name.

Be Blessed Family!

In order for you get something you've never had you have to do something you have never done. Those are not my words, but they fit perfectly into the scheme of working your dream and having it come into fruition.

You see dreams just don't come to pass when you sit around and wait for things to happen. No, you have to be proactive in terms of dexterity and use the hands God gave you, and the Words he put in your mouth. You have the power to harness the gift that is in you. Whether your gift was tainted by others when you were young or hindered by vices when you became an Adult. It doesn't matter where you are at this point of your life. You have the know how to get it done. You have the essence of Kings and Queens inside of you, and once you realize that you are worthy of goodness and better circumstance in life, then you can basically do anything.

Understand, the way that your life turns out depends on what you do. Your experiences are just opportunites that allow you to be more of a complete person. How you deal with your experiences, dictates how long it will take you to get to your dreams. Now is the time to align yourself with your inner voice, with the greatness inside you. When you align, you are actually working your faith in the most basic form. It is your silent testimony speaking out from the essence of you. In these moments, you are saying that you acknowledge God and who he is, and that you Believe that your faith will form into the substance of your dreams. Know that you can do anything if you work and believe.  So take heart and know that your are important and let noone tell you otherwise.

This is the essence of what my author is trying to say in her interview about Crimes against Women and Children. This is important to me because i believe that dreams come in different forms. Those that hinder have a propensity not to help bring your dreams into fruition. But those who see the Vision, are more than willing to help you.

Please Take time to listen and may you be Blessed in all your endeavors.

5 Tips To  Supercharge Your Motivation

Here’s 5 top tips to help you supercharge your motivation:

Motivation is the driving force behind life-enhancing change. It comes from knowing exactly what you want to do and having an insatiable, burning desire to do what’s necessary to get it. It keeps your dream on track as it is the power of motivation that keeps you going when the going gets tough.

Here’s 5 top tips to help you supercharge your motivation:

1. Create a picture board and fill it with images of your desired goals.

The car you want to own, the house you want to live in, the area where you want to live yes, they’re the obvious ones. Others could be pictures of holiday destinations, trophies, first-class travel tickets, clothes you want to buy, fine restaurants you want to frequent – whatever you can think of that gets your pulse racing.

2. Get angry.

If you want to change your life for the better then get angry about where you’re at now. Having a blasé attitude towards change isn’t what’s needed and it won’t create a strong desire within you. So ask: “Why do I want to change?” Is it because you’re FED UP with debts? Does your job DRIVE YOU CRAZY? Is your life DULL AND PRECITABLE? Are you SICK AND TIRED of doing the same thing week in week out? Are you BORED BEYOND BELIEF by the dull, uninspiring, unhappy people you associate with? THEN GET ANGRY ABOUT IT. And I mean REAL ANGRY. Write it all down, all of the frustrating, unrewarding, miserable lot of it that makes every day a dull slog until your final days. IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT?

3. Value your time.

Time is one of the most precious resources you have and it is also a NON RENEWABLE resource. You can either use it fully or squander it. If you want to create change you’re going to have to invest a lot of time to make it happen. Start to reduce the time you waste on irrelevancies: Television, newspapers, lie-ins, weekends spent shopping, partying, dining out, visiting an endless line of relatives and friends – these won’t help you get what you want and all of them will rob time from you. Valuable time that you can use much more effectively by investing it in YOU. Remember this: You have a finite amount of time here on Earth. You don’t know how much time you have – no one does. But it’s how you use the time you have that counts. So make your time count and that means starting from right NOW.

4. Conformity.

Are you a mindless little sheep who’s way too timid to pursue your own way? Do you have to follow where everyone else goes, doing exactly what everyone else does and therefore, who gets the same levels of happiness as all the other little sheep? Seriously, does this describe YOU? Are you too frightened to be different than all of the other sheep because they wouldn’t like it if you decided to follow a different path? So you dutifully trot along following all the other sheep because if they’re doing it then that’s how it is right? But if you do what everyone else does you’ll just get what everyone else gets. Do you want to be a mindless, timid little sheep who blindly follows all the other sheep? Or do you want to be a leader, a warrior who possesses the courage to be uniquely you and to do what you want to do and make your dreams happen? If so then this means you have to be more like a tiger than a sheep. Do you really want to be a sheep? I mean, haven’t we got enough sheep already?

5. Fight Your Fear.

Fear is the force that is determined to stop you in your tracks and rob your dreams from you. But it can only do this if you let it. Are you going to let this cruel destructive charlatan trample on your dreams, steal your happiness and crush your spirit? Imagine this thought haunting your final days: “I didn’t do the things I wanted because I was too frightened to live”. And by then, it’ll be far too late to conquer fear. Refuse to let fear spoil your life and start taking action – now!

The world is waiting for your unique gifts. Why keep it waiting any longer?
